40th: The Frogs of Haruhi Suzmiya

[Okay so her not!date a few days ago ended up a disaster all things considered. She's really not sure how to handle facing Kyon or Minato even four days later ~~hence my need to have a second post such a short time later~~. She's sort of hunt out in the Brigade's front room or at her house -- it's too cold to really sit on the roof of her house, like she might otherwise do. She meant to just be introspective and avoid people other than housemates or people who came to call, even having a silent period in Brigade Meetings.

But well, now there's elves. She ignored the elf for the first day, but it's still here and honestly, the first few requests about hanging up decorations or fixing up that tree Minato and her still got despite the failure of that day. So she does those. Then, its fourth request is... to go caroling all over town for two hours.

Silly.

It's silly, but it's just silly enough for her to want to do it. Honestly, it didn't even tell her what she had to sing. So--- Haruhi will be going all over town, to knock on the front doors of various houses and then sing songs ranging from: Eye of the Tiger to God Knows to Lost My Music, and maybe even a little Pillows. Basically, anything she can recall how to sing off hand. The blatant defiance of the elf's no doubt intended edict of doing Christmas songs feels good. She'll do more things by the book for the elf later, sure, but right now, this level of defiance feels very good.

[When there's a sound by the door Winry opens it. Honestly she doesn't expect Haruhi, but when it's Haruhi there and singing she can't help but be a little confused. The blonde tilts her head, and refrains from asking what is going on for just a little longer. If Haruhi thinks to look she'll see Winry's Elf swinging its legs happily on a shelf with a cookie.]

[Oh she does, but she's beyond caring about the small things right now. She's singing her heart out, recalling a song she heard on the radio before she came to Luceti. Because she wasn't totally fond of it there's probably some errors, but she has a good memory when she tries. She might even skip a verse or two, giving up maybe a minute and a half in]

[She'll wait until Haruhi gives up to speak.]

[ The change in expression on Joshua's face probably isn't the one she's expecting. The surprise shifts into something blank, almost sad in a way, as he listens.

He was aware that he couldn't hear music, which is the only reason what he's hearing now makes sense. It's the lyrics, but the melody and rhythm are somehow distorted so that it doesn't even come close to being the original song. It doesn't really sound like anything now. There's just the words.

... Meanwhile Joshua's elf skitters over to the doorway as fast as his little legs can carry him and starts clapping along cheerfully, because Christmas carolers are awesome! Right? ]

[And when she finishes, she exhales and points a finger, dramatically, mostly at the elf. The facial expression Joshua has is noticed but... she's intending to just ignore it]

[He's not at home in CH 6 - he's spending these days awkwardly drinking away his sorrows. More at the tea shop than at the bar, of course, and not exactly moping, but certainly apprehensive. It's in transit between the two of them that he passes her. He only realizes it's her when he recognizes the song that she's just finishing up. 'One of those ENOZ songs.

[To say she is not surprised to run into Kyon now would be a lie. But it's a sort of light recognition-based surprise which she opens his eyes a bit widely at before she pushes it back to be more natural]

The "huh, Haruhi's caroling with seasonally inappropriate songs" look? It's just an ordinary, boring look. That's probably what.

That's definitely a slightly different look than that. In fact, it's probably something more akin to "I decided to make an ass of myself and I've every intention of apologizing to my illustrious leader sometime in the near future."
