40th: The Frogs of Haruhi Suzmiya

[Okay so her not!date a few days ago ended up a disaster all things considered. She's really not sure how to handle facing Kyon or Minato even four days later ~~hence my need to have a second post such a short time later~~. She's sort of hunt out in the Brigade's front room or at her house -- it's too cold to really sit on the roof of her house, like she might otherwise do. She meant to just be introspective and avoid people other than housemates or people who came to call, even having a silent period in Brigade Meetings.

But well, now there's elves. She ignored the elf for the first day, but it's still here and honestly, the first few requests about hanging up decorations or fixing up that tree Minato and her still got despite the failure of that day. So she does those. Then, its fourth request is... to go caroling all over town for two hours.

Silly.

It's silly, but it's just silly enough for her to want to do it. Honestly, it didn't even tell her what she had to sing. So--- Haruhi will be going all over town, to knock on the front doors of various houses and then sing songs ranging from: Eye of the Tiger to God Knows to Lost My Music, and maybe even a little Pillows. Basically, anything she can recall how to sing off hand. The blatant defiance of the elf's no doubt intended edict of doing Christmas songs feels good. She'll do more things by the book for the elf later, sure, but right now, this level of defiance feels very good.

Feel free to encounter her whole she's "caroling," between houses (with her getting increasingly happy the closer to the end of her run she is), or during her avoidance period. PS: If you're in the Brigade, see here for New Years discussion.]

I don't think that's quite what I said. Look, I'm sorry it turned out the way it did, but it had to happen, I guess, and I can't really apologize for that.

['And I really needed to know about Borisato at some point... Certainly wasn't going to hear from his silent, dumb ass.

You're really being terrible about this apology thing! That doesn't sound sincere at all. For that matter, you didn't even say anything thing, you just made some annoyingly possessive implications about this and that. Jeez.

[Huff]

...But fine, whatever. It's not like I'm going to hold it against you. The history of what I've been through is complicated and it's not like I've explained everything, so I won't hold it against you.

['... Well, that is unexpected. But... Well, I did ask. And she didn't tell me much, yeah. And here we are.']

So are you going to explain more now? Is that what the problem really is, that I just don't understand what's going on?

It might be. [A beat, and then she rocks on her heels before looking straight on at Kyon] But what do you think it is?

What do I think is the problem, or what do I think is going on?

['I guess I'd say the problem is what's going on.']

...It's been hard for us to talk about some things the way we used to, I guess.

Fine, then how about you tell me about your problems, or what youv'e been doing in the last few months. I'll listen, even if it's boring. Go on.

--Not because there hasn't been opportunity, exactly. And anyway, it isn't really my problems. ['Is it ever? Still...']

I don't know that anything's been bothering me much. Kaname told me that Aikawa is a lolicon. That was an awkward conversation. Buffy's been teaching me a little about self-defense. ['Though we really usually end up just talking. It'd probably be better to get a Slayer signal than defend myself anyway.']

...I guess my problem is that I don't know where to start. With this, with you, or with anything here.

[Her eyes briefly narrow at Buffy's name, but she doesn't press that. Instead she shrugs dramatically] Like anyone ever doubted Ayumu was a lolicon. He smells like one.

Yeah. He didn't even deny it at first when I asked. What with the magical girl thing, there's definitely something creepy about him.

--Magical girl thing?

[Yes, she is... or was. Surprisingly one of the only people out of the loop about tha]

... ['Oh, this is going to be juicy.']

Yeah. Aikawa's secretly a magical girl. Goes around in a dress and everything. I found out when I went to his world in that one experiment.

[...!]

[And she bounds up, taking Kyon by the collar and grinning ear to ear, excited] Seriously?! And he wears a dress and everything?! I should have expected when even I was jealous of his legs, but that's an important detail and I won't tolerate lying about that!

['Your face is too close!']

Lying about his legs? His dress? Yes, he wears a dress. It's part of the magical girl transformation. I'm pretty sure, anyway. Unless it's just voluntary.

...You were jealous of his legs?

Didn't you see them at the pageant? Someone like you probably was even turned on by them, I bet.

You're going too far!

That's a yes! [And she beams at him before hopping back two steps and laughing some in spite of herself. She really does have fun with him]

That's just nonsense! I've never looked at his legs. Your legs are entirely good enough for me.

That's sexual harassment!

That's appreciation! And you're one to talk about sexual harassment!

If that's appreciation, then you can "appreciate" me in five more ways right now without it sounding like you're a creeper! For each successful one I'll consider it a victory, but you'll get punishment for every creepy one!

...You're great at blackmailing people into doing your bidding. And coming up with ridiculous challenges.

And talking to you turns any conversation into something different than what it originally was. And - ['...'] Ultimately, you're a good friend.

And... ['...Come on...']

you look good in a ponytail.

[She's lightly flushed when he finishes, but she's surprised, a little. While it does stir her heart, it doesn't make her immediately want to reject it. She's not sure if this is maturity (that elusive thing), her feelings for him having faded, or just how emotionally tired she is right now, but she's grinning by the end and nods, self-satisfied]

That last one's a borderline, but I'll excuse you.
