godbent | 17th: The Knowledge of Haruhi Suzumiya

Three announcements, Luceti! In order of importance, so if you're listening at least stick around for the first one.

Number one: all of you show up at House 37 - that's the one in the square - on the night of the 13th - that's this Saturday, for those of you not getting the message. There'll be a special surprise Brigade-sponsored event that's been a long time coming!

[Okay, so it's super-late and she's actually a little bored of it by now but she did go to all the effort - or rather the Brigade did - to set it up. In light of that, she might as well try to get it off the ground. She informed the Brigade of her plans yesterday, as well as gave them some tasks for the night of. Even if it's not a success, she'll be annoyed, but with so many of the original people involved out of it... eh. Oh well]

Number two: If you don't know who the SOS-Brigade is, listen up! If you do, also listen up! We're Luceti's premiere source of fun and excitement, a bastion of entertainment and joy in a village filled with listeless people! And right now, we're recruiting! Talk to me if you want in, because I - Haruhi Suzumiya, chief of the SOS-Brigade - would be glad to see if you're up to it!

And finally, three: my birthday was on the 31st. In light of the circumstances around that time, I'll forgive any of you who forgot to give me gifts at that time [she means her friends, specifically, but doesn't clarify] so don't worry about it. Unless you feel a terrible guilt, then I'll take them late.

[And she'll wait. Rocking on the chair in front of the house]

[And sure enough she'll be bounding up the porch steps in just under fifteen minutes, two bags dangling from her hands.] Hey! [And she'll park herself right next to that chair.]

...you know, I'm expecting you to start yelling at people to keep off our lawn.

What? I'm not that old!

[She huggs a bit, as she scoots to make more room for Shiki]

You're older than me now, aren't you? [And she sits, putting the bags between her feet and Mr. Mew in her lap.]

Anywhere between seventeen and twenty depending on how you count it.

Time's still weird here. I don't know what's considered real and what isn't. I don't think I'll count it as twenty though, no offense.

I'm counting it at 20. But fine, what are you counting it as?

Seventeen so that I can be older than you come February. What else?

Wow, rude.

[Elbowing her friend in the ribs. A little pout, but it's in good mirth]

Not even. I have to have a one-up somehow. [But she's grinning anyway.]

So. Do you want your present first, or your cake first?

You have cake too?

Well yeah. I told you, I felt bad that we missed your birthday even if we did go to the beach.

Then let's go with cake. It seems only right.

Come inside. I picked it up really early this morning. [And she's getting up, grabbing her friend by the arm to pull her from her chair.]

[She lets herself be pulled a bit, smiling as she makes her way inside. Okay so she isn't expecting/demanding it, but the whole... thing is nice.]

[This is what happens when you have good friends, Haruhi. She'll be leading her into the kitchen, pulling out a chair from the table.] Have a seat. [And she herself is heading for the icebox to reach into the freezer and pull out a bakery box. She sets it on the table, waiting until she has the girl's attention before she opens it. It's an ice cream cake, presumably in Haruhi's favorite flavors. The perks of summer birthdays.]

[She sits when instructed and when the box is opened, she claps a little. Trying not to mock Shiki but really... the presentation and thoughtfulness here is nice]

I hope it's big enough...that was the only size I could grab with these flavors. But I figured it's better than nothing. [She gets it. She's just really pleased she managed to do something right here.]

It's fine.

[haruhi says this quickly, just... admiring it. She's right, there's basically no chance of these flavors]

Good. Then let's cut it instead of staring...oh wait! [And she's rushing to the other side of the kitchen, yanking open a drawer where she'd stored birthday candles. She's driving them into the cake then before retrieving the lighter and lighting them up.] I'm not a great singer so I'll spare you that, but you get a wish anyway.

Oh. ...Sure, thanks.

[And she gets up a bit to lean over the cake once it's lit. She considers a moment. A wish, huh? ...No, that's stupid. Deciding quickly, she just blows them out in one breath]

[Let her have her fun. She claps her hands and begins immediately removing the candles.] I know we should wait for Beat and Neku, but I really don't feel like it. [Thus. There is cake-cutting happening and handing over a piece.]

You sure?

[But she doesn't mind. :|a]

Of course I'm sure. Not my fault they're missing out.

Fine, fine. [And she takes the cake piece from Shiki, and then goes and takes a bite for it first to allow Shiki to do it]
